About This Tool
Rotate PDF turns pages and saves the result as a new file. Pages are shown as thumbnails and all of them start selected; narrow the selection by clicking pages or using the odd and even shortcuts, then rotate left 90°, right 90° or 180°, or set an exact angle for a crooked scan.
Quarter turns are added to whatever rotation a page already has and only change its orientation setting, so text, images and resolution are untouched. The Fine rotation panel offers a dial, a slider and a number box covering -180° to 180° in 0.5° steps, with 5° steps on the mouse wheel while Shift is held. A fine angle is applied differently: the page is drawn at that angle onto a new page enlarged to fit it, so its size changes, and links, comments and form fields on that page are not carried over. Quick rotation buttons add to the current angle, while the fine controls set it outright.
The rotated file is assembled as a new document from your pages, so the original bookmarks and properties such as title and author are not carried across. It downloads with _rotated added to the name. For a batch of tilted scans, Deskew PDF straightens pages automatically, and page order is changed in Organize PDF.
Pages are rotated inside your browser tab and the PDF is not uploaded. A reading copy of a scanned record with sideways tables is a typical use; keep the original scan as the record and treat the rotated file as a copy.
Step-by-step instructions and common mistakes: Rotate PDF Pages: Turn One Page or All and Save the File.
How to Use
Add your PDF
Drop one PDF on the upload area or click to browse. Thumbnails appear and every page starts selected.
Choose the pages
Click thumbnails to select or deselect them, or use Select All, Clear, Odd pages and Even pages.
Turn them
In Quick rotation, click Rotate left 90°, Rotate right 90° or Rotate 180°, or use the arrows under a single thumbnail. Switch to Fine rotation to set an exact angle.
Save the rotated copy
Click the Rotate button, which shows how many pages will change, then download the new file.
Use Cases
Fix sideways landscape tables
Turn the results tables that were scanned on their side so the whole document reads the same way up on screen.
Correct an upside-down page
Give a single page a 180° turn without touching the rest of the document.
Straighten a slightly tilted scan
Use Fine rotation to take a degree or two of tilt out of a page that went through the scanner at an angle.
Prepare pages for OCR
Put every page upright before running text recognition, so the OCR tool reads each page the right way up.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I turn a single page and leave the rest alone?
Yes. Use the arrows under that page's thumbnail, or select only that page before using a Quick rotation button. Pages you do not touch keep their current orientation.
Does rotating reduce quality?
Not for 90° or 180° turns, which only change the page orientation setting. A fine angle redraws the page content at an angle rather than turning it into a picture, but the page grows to fit and interactive items on it are dropped.
Why is the Rotate button greyed out?
It becomes active only when at least one page has an angle other than zero. Four quarter turns in the same direction bring a page back to 0°, so it is not counted.
Will bookmarks and document properties survive?
No. The output is rebuilt from your pages as a new document. Add bookmarks again with Edit Bookmarks and properties with Edit Metadata if you need them.
Can I rotate a password-protected PDF?
Remove the password with Decrypt PDF first. This tool does not unlock files, and a protected document may not process correctly.
