About This Tool
Fix Page Size puts every page of a PDF on one page size, such as A4 or Letter, by fitting, filling, stretching or centring the original content. Only the page content is copied, so links, comments, form fields and bookmarks are left behind, and pages that rely on a rotation setting may come out turned.
Presets are A3, A4, A5, Letter, Legal, Tabloid and Executive, or Custom, with width and height in points (72 points to the inch) from 72 to 3000. Orientation can be Auto, which turns the target size to match each source page's portrait or landscape shape, or fixed to Portrait or Landscape. The content scaling options are:
- Fit: scales the content to fit inside the page and centres it, leaving white margins where the shapes differ.
- Fill: scales until the page is covered and centres it, so content that overflows the edges is cut off.
- Stretch: scales width and height separately to cover the page exactly, which distorts text and images when the shapes differ.
- Center: no scaling; content keeps its size and is centred, so a larger page is cropped and a smaller one gains a margin.
Maintain aspect ratio starts ticked; unticking it makes Fit and Fill stretch too. Text and graphics stay as sharp, selectable vector content in a new document. The full media box of each page is used, so areas hidden by an earlier crop can reappear, and a page shown turned by a rotation setting is placed unrotated; turn it afterwards with Rotate PDF.
Shrinking a page shrinks its text, which matters where a specification sets minimum font sizes. Check sizes with Page Dimensions, and see How to Prepare PDFs for Regulatory Submissions for agency page size expectations. Nothing is uploaded.
How to Use
Upload the PDF
Drop one PDF on the upload area or click to browse.
Choose the target size
Pick a preset such as A4 or Letter, or Custom and enter the width and height in points.
Set scaling and orientation
Choose Fit, Fill, Stretch or Center, then Auto, Portrait or Landscape. Leave Maintain aspect ratio ticked unless you want distortion.
Apply and check
Click Fix Page Sizes, download the copy named with _fixed added, and check pages that had links, form fields or rotated content.
Use Cases
Mixed A4 and Letter files
Bring pages from Irish, European and US sources to one size before a combined document is printed or bound.
Scans at odd sizes
Place scans captured at slightly different sizes on a standard sheet so the pages line up in the viewer and on paper.
Print shop requirements
Centre content on a larger sheet without scaling when a printer asks for a fixed page size with space around the artwork.
Frequently Asked Questions
What happens to links, comments and form fields?
They are not kept. Each page's content is drawn on a new page, but annotations, including links, comments and fillable fields, stay behind, as do bookmarks and document properties. Flatten forms first if the filled-in values must appear.
Which scaling mode should I use?
Fit keeps everything visible and adds margins where needed. Fill covers the page but can cut off edges. Stretch covers the page exactly but distorts shapes. Center keeps the original size and is useful when moving content on to a larger sheet.
Why did a page come out sideways?
Some PDFs store a page upright and tell the viewer to turn it. This tool places the stored content without that turn, so such pages can appear rotated. Turn them back with Rotate PDF afterwards.
Does the text stay sharp and searchable?
Yes. Pages are placed as vector content, not converted to images, so text stays selectable. It does get smaller or larger with the scaling.
What units does the custom size use?
Points, at 72 to the inch. A4 is about 595 by 842 points and Letter is 612 by 792. Values from 72 to 3000 are accepted.
