About This Tool

Sign PDF puts your signature on a PDF page. Open the file, click the signature button in the viewer toolbar, then type your name, draw with a mouse, trackpad or finger, or upload a photo of your handwritten signature. Click the page to place it, resize it and save the signed copy.

Each signature you place is stored in the PDF as a stamp annotation that carries a vector outline of the signature. You can add several signatures or sets of initials across different pages before saving, and an image tool in the same toolbar adds a picture such as a company seal. If you tick Save signature in the dialog, the viewer keeps that signature in this browser's local storage for next time, with room for five.

Be clear about what this produces. No certificate is involved, nothing records who signed, and later edits to the file are not detected. Anyone with a PDF editor can move or delete the signature. When a recipient asks for a certificate-based signature, use Digital Signature with your own PFX, P12 or PEM certificate, and place any visual signature before you apply it.

The document opens and is saved inside your browser tab; neither the PDF nor your signature is sent to a server. For approvals on controlled records such as batch records, SOPs or validation reports, a drawn signature does not replace your organisation's approved electronic signature system, so keep this tool for everyday paperwork.

How to Use

  1. Add your PDF

Drop one PDF on the upload area or click to browse. It opens in a viewer on the page.

  2. Open the signature tool

Click the signature button (the pen icon) in the viewer toolbar and choose to add a new signature.

  3. Create the signature

In the Add a signature dialog choose Type, Draw or Image, tick Save signature if you want to reuse it, then click Add.

  4. Place and size it

Click the page where the signature belongs, then drag it into position and resize it. Repeat for initials or other pages.

  5. Save the signed copy

Click Save Signed PDF below the viewer. The download has signed_ in front of the original file name.

Use Cases

Supplier and service agreements

Return a signed confidentiality or service agreement by email without printing, signing and scanning the pages.

Routine forms

Add the same saved signature to timesheets, expense claims or leave forms each week from the same browser.

Initialling long documents

Put small initials on every page of a contract, then a full signature on the signature page.

Course and enrolment forms

Sign a training application or enrolment form that only asks for a visible signature.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a digital signature with a certificate?

No. Sign PDF places a visual signature and uses no certificate, so it does not prove who signed or reveal later changes. For certificate-based signing with a PFX, P12 or PEM file, use Digital Signature.

Can I reuse my signature next time?

Yes. Tick Save signature in the Add a signature dialog and it is kept in this browser's local storage, up to five signatures. Anyone using the same browser profile can see them, so leave it unticked on a shared computer.

Can I add initials on several pages?

Yes. Place as many signatures as you need, on any page, before you click Save Signed PDF. If you click save with nothing placed, the tool says no signature was found instead of downloading an unsigned copy.

What kind of image works for an uploaded signature?

The viewer traces the picture into a signature outline, so a dark signature on plain white paper, cropped close, gives the cleanest result. If it cannot find a signature in the image, it asks you to try another one.

Can someone else remove my signature from the file?

Yes. It is saved as an annotation, which other PDF editors can move or delete. It is a visible mark, not evidence that the document is unchanged.

Will the recipient accept a drawn signature?

That depends on the country, the type of document and what the recipient asks for. Under the EU eIDAS Regulation a drawn or typed signature is generally a simple electronic signature, so check the requirements for anything important.
