About This Tool
Excel to PDF turns a spreadsheet into a PDF with LibreOffice Calc compiled to WebAssembly, working inside your browser tab. Add an .xlsx, .xls, .ods or .csv file, select Convert to PDF and download the result. Pages are cut according to the workbook's own page setup, because this tool has no layout options of its own.
That page setup decides most of what you see. A wide sheet with no scaling runs across several pages, and the PDF shows the values in the cells rather than the formulas behind them. Set print areas, orientation and fit-to-width in your spreadsheet program, save, then convert. A CSV file is read as comma-separated UTF-8 text, so a file that uses semicolons will end up in a single column.
The engine is the same LibreOffice build used by Word to PDF and PowerPoint to PDF, roughly 260 MB of files before compression. Opening the page starts loading it; after the first visit it is kept in your browser's cache storage. Fonts installed on your computer are not available to it, so cells in unusual fonts are drawn in a substitute and may look wider or narrower. Files above 50 MB are refused, and a conversion that runs past five minutes stops with an error.
The spreadsheet is processed in the tab and not uploaded. A Batch Excel to PDF panel below the converter handles several workbooks one after another and offers a ZIP. If the workbook is a calculation record, such as an assay or stability summary, recalculate and save it before converting, then check every page of the PDF for cut-off columns.
How to Use
Open the tool
A progress panel appears straight away while LibreOffice loads. The first visit takes longest.
Add your spreadsheet
Drag an .xlsx, .xls, .ods or .csv file onto Upload Excel File, or click to browse. The main converter takes one file at a time.
Select Convert to PDF
The bar moves while LibreOffice lays out the sheets. You can cancel if it takes too long.
Download and review
Select Download, then page through the PDF to confirm that every sheet you need is there and no columns are cut off.
Several workbooks
In the Batch Excel to PDF panel, add the files, select Start batch conversion, then Download all or Download ZIP.
Use Cases
Circulating a results summary
Send a summary table to reviewers as a PDF so nobody can change a cell by accident while reading it.
Filing a completed checklist
Convert a filled-in equipment or cleaning checklist kept in a spreadsheet into a PDF for the file, once it has been reviewed.
Sharing a budget or quote
Give a client or funder a fixed copy of a costing sheet that opens the same way on any device.
Printing a CSV export
Turn a comma-separated export from an instrument or database into pages you can print or attach to an email.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are all sheets included?
The converter uses LibreOffice's standard PDF export for the whole workbook, so each sheet with content is laid out in turn. As with printing, hidden sheets are skipped, and if a sheet has a print area only that area appears.
Why is my sheet split across several pages?
The PDF follows the page setup stored in the file. If the sheet is wider than the paper and no scaling is set, the columns continue on extra pages. In Excel or LibreOffice, set the orientation to landscape or scale the sheet to fit one page wide, save, and convert again.
Are formulas kept?
No. A PDF holds what the cells display, not the formulas, filters or macros behind them. Keep the spreadsheet as the working file.
Which formats does it accept?
.xlsx, .xls, .ods and .csv, each up to 50 MB. CSV files are read as comma-separated UTF-8, so a semicolon-separated file should be opened and saved as .xlsx first.
Why is the first conversion slow?
LibreOffice runs inside your browser and has to download first, roughly 260 MB of files before compression. It starts loading when you open the page and is then kept in your browser's cache storage, so later conversions start much sooner.
Can I convert a workbook that has a password?
Not if the password is needed to open the file, because the tool has no way to ask for it. Remove the password in your spreadsheet program, save, and convert the saved copy.
